Thomas More House, Barbican
This virtual tour shows Thomas More House, part of the Barbican Estate in the City of London. The Barbican Estate is a residential development developed after the war. 35 acres of the City of London was destroyed during one night of bombing in World War II, and for many years, this devastated area of land lay empty. In 1963, construction began on the area, which as well as residential flats, is also home to the Barbican Arts Centre, the Museum of London, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Barbican public library, the City of London School for Girls and a YMCA.
Thomas More House was named after the statesman, author and saint (as of 1935) who was imprisoned in the Tower of London before his execution in the 16th century.
