The Maughan Library, Chancery Lane
The Maughan Library is the library and information service of King's College London (University of London). The building is an imposing Victorian neo-Gothic structure, and these virtual tours shows the entrance arch from Chancery Lane and the main courtyard. The building was, until 1997 (when all records were moved to Kew or Islington), the Public Records Office. The Public Records Office is now known as The National Archives, but its function remains unchanged, holding the official collections of records of public business for England, Wales and the UK government. This includes the records of court proceedings going back to the Middle Ages, and the original manuscript of the Domesday Book. In this incarnation, the building was known as 'the strong-box of the Empire'.
