St Lawrence Jewry, Gresham Street

Loading map...
The official church of the City of London Corporation, St Lawrence Jewry is next to the Guildhall on Greshham Street in the City of London. The original church on the site was built in 1136, and the 'Jewry' suffix was added as the church was in a Jewish area of the city in medieval times. The church was burned down in 1666 in the Great Fire of London and rebuilt by Christopher Wren in 1677. Almost completely destroyed again in 1940 by a bomb during the Blitz, it was again rebuilt, staying true to Wren's vision.
