Highgate Ponds, Hampstead Heath
Hampstead Heath boasts more than 25 separate ponds on its land. At the Highgate side of the Heath the ponds have been created from reservoirs, and there is now a men's bathing pond, a ladies' bathing pond, a model boating pond, a wildlife reserve pond and a fishing lake. This virtual tour shows the fishing lake, where many anglers come to try their luck with the carp, bream, rudd, perch, gudgeon, pike, tench and roach to be found in the ponds. The angling is not without controversy though, as swan rescues report that 40% of their call-outs are for swans injured by discarded fishing tackle. Whether you're angling, walking the dog or just out enjoying the sun, Hampstead Heath is a fantastic place to visit.
