For many years being 'on Carey Street' was a common euphemism for being bankrupt, as the bankruptcy courts moved here in the mid nineteenth century. Carey Street is a great destination for checking out the unusual small independent shops like A. Woodhouse and Son, the jewellers, who have been trading here for over 300 years, or The Wig Box, specialising in legal wigs.
Other virtual tours in this area include St Clement Danes, the Samuel Johnson statue, Fleet Street, the Royal Courts of Justice, Temple Bar, the Law Society and the Maughan Library. Please click the thumbnail panorama to view the fast-loading, fullscreen virtual tour.
